# What Is Circle of Competence?

**Short answer:** Circle of competence is the domain list a skill will own — industries, instruments, or problems it is allowed to judge. Outside the circle the correct output is “pass,” not a confident paragraph.

## In the schema

`circleOfCompetence` is an optional string list (e.g. consumer brands, insurance). Combined with universe it is the first filter before signals even run.

This is how Questflow keeps a model from applying a semiconductor-chokepoint skill (Serenity) to a random meme perp, or a net-net skill to a pre-revenue token.
